Title:
Individuelle Förderung auf der Basis eines erweiterten digitalen Lehr-Lern-Konzepts für den Fremdsprachenunterricht / Individual tutoring in an extended digital teaching-learning concept for foreign language classrooms
Duration:
01/06/2020 to 31/05/2026
Abstract / short description:
Following up on the debate of the DigitalPakt Schule (Digital Pact for Schools) mostly focused on school infrastructure, this project addresses the central question how the promise of digitally supported education can actually be realised in real-life school context. On the one hand, AI-based adaptive, interactive systems enable a genuine improvement in learning through tailored support, which makes them attractive for the frequently called for internal differentiation in schools. On the other hand, there has so far been little discussion of how individual digital support can be meaningfully integrated with school teaching. Teachers play a central role here. On the one hand, digital systems can provide them with important diagnostic information through individual and aggregated learning analytics. On the other hand, they also need substantial competencies for the interpretation and the resulting methodological-didactic options. The project offers both the necessary technical extension and the systematic teacher training for digitally supported teaching and learning. The planned extension of the school-tested intelligent tutoring system FeedBook with a teacher interface will process the rich information on learning processes and individual competencies of the students in a class in such a way that teachers can obtain the information they need to design lessons. The teacher training developed by the project will support both the concrete use of such an interface in school practice and the learning-psychological and methodological-didactic foundations needed to empower the teachers to interpret the data and effectively use it in their classroom teaching. The project is carried out in cooperation with the Zentrum für Schulqualität und Lehrerbildung (ZSL, Center for School Quality and Teacher Education). The effectiveness of the technical and the teacher training components will be evaluated in several steps following the scientific state-of-the-art.
