Title:
Combinability, Parsing, and Potential Productivity in Indonesian Agent Noun
Duration:
01/04/2016 to 31/03/2020
Abstract / short description:
A linguistic unit contains two segments: form and meaning, that correlate with each other (Booij,1986; Shaumyan, 2006; Rojo, 2013) resulted in claims about the relationship among morphemes which has been widely discussed. Other than discussion of morphological perspective, little comparative attention has been paid to the agent noun in Indonesian within construction morphology perspective. Hence, studies on Indonesian agent noun have a lack of correspondence between the co-occurance of agent noun and its mechanism. This research bases itself on parsing and productivity as proposed in Hay and Baayen (2002), Hay and Plag (2004) also construction morphology as proposed by Booij (2007, 2010). There are two issues formulated in this study: (1) What aspects influence the combinability and parsing of Indonesian agent noun? (2) What are responsible for the productivity of potential agent noun? The proposed research will use Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (Alwi, 2003) as its initial data source and a number of different sources such as blogs as the secondary data which then will be analyzed using vertical link (Booij, 2015). To this end, this study intends to find aspects influencing combinability, parsing, and productivity of agent noun in Indonesian.
