Naturschutzphilosophische und -ethische Analyse zu gentechnischer Veränderung wild lebender Organismen
Duration:

Abstract / short description:
The aim of the project is to explore the question of the suitability and desirability of the new genetic technologies for nature conservation, even beyond the benefit-risk trade-offs: To comprehensively evaluate genetic technologies, it is necessary to assess (i) the ends, (ii) the means to achieve those ends, (iii) the potential consequences and side-effects, and (iv) the overall policy context of the measures. Hence the central question reads : do the means of genetic engineering and associated practices, as well as the
natural and techno-philosophical presuppositions and implications of genetic engineering on wild organisms, fit with the overarching goals of conservation? This task requires several aspects to be considered together: from philosophy of nature and philosophy of technology, history of conservation, epistemolog, and last but not least inter-disciplinary ethics in a socio-political context.
