Title:
Ultrasensitive High Density Plasmonic Micro-Sensors and Novel Neurostimulation Paradigms for Enhanced Vision Restoration in Blind People
Duration:
01/03/2021 to 31/10/2023
Abstract / short description:
The aim is development of the RetinaSensor, a demonstrator chip accommodating high-density micro-electrodes with ultra-sensitive photodetectors, with a stimulation concept that prevents neuronal image-fading by cutting-edge technology for electronic retinal prostheses helping patients master daily living challenges associated with retinal degeneration induced blindness. In contrast to all current implants the RetinaSensor will utilize an intrinsic gating mechanism in the photodetection combined with stimulation electrodes at unmatched resolution in combination with a biomimetic sensor–electrode wiring, where one photosensor alternatingly drives six electrodes in a controlled activation mapping with different spatial and temporal patterns.
Keywords:
Retinal prosthesis
