Title:
ESTHER-Überwachung von unerwünschten Arzneimittelwirkungen durch frei zugängliche Smartphone Apps
Duration:
01/06/2020 to 30/11/2021
Abstract / short description:
Reporting of adverse drug reactions after a drug has been approved - also known as pharmacovigilance - is important in order to be able to identify rarely occurring adverse effects and interactions with concomitantly taken substances. This allows an overall assessment of an approved medicament - indispensable especially for the safety of therapeutics that must be taken over a long period of time, e.g. for tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. Information on adverse reactions is obtained directly from patients under therapy. Advances in the field of digital health/eHealth made it possible now to obtain data more easily and comprehensively using specific smartphone applications.
The project herein aims to expand a smartphone-based video observed treatment (VOT) system to enable efficient and rapid reporting and monitoring of adverse drug effects. The VOT system is developed within a BMZ/GIZ-funded project to monitor drug intake of tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS patients via smartphones aiming to improve compliance with prescribed medication.
