Title:
Determinanten und Effekte von Geschäftserwartungen in Deutschland nach 1980
Duration:
01/10/2019 to 30/09/2022
Abstract / short description:
In this project, we aim to contribute to the Priority Programme "Experience and Expectation:
Historical Foundations of Economic Behaviour" by investigating the determinants and effects of
business expectations in Germany after 1980. We will put a special focus on how institutional
change and crises a) alter the way how expectations are formed, and b) impact on the passthrough
of expectations into economic actions. In particular, we want to explore how two historic
events, the introduction of the euro and the global financial crisis, have changed the chain from
the determinants of expectations to price-setting and production decisions of firms. Our principal
data source is the EBDC Business Expectations Panel (BEP) of the LMU-ifo Economics &
Business Data Center (EBDC) in Munich.
