Quellen der Notwendigkeit / Sources of Necessity

The central goal of the proposed project is to develop the intuitive notion of a source of necessity in order to gain new insights into traditional issues within the metaphysics of modality. We aim to use the notion of source in the study of different kinds of necessity and of different forms of explanation. We will also investigate the prospect of understanding obligations as a normative kind of necessity to be characterized in terms of their sources.
