Abstract / short description:
Biomimetic based textiles for new types of solutions for moisture evaporation, condensation and supply of plants in greenhouse horticulture. One of the greatest challenges in greenhouse horticulture is the heating and water processing as well as the reduction of air moisture. Furthermore, there are attempts to utilize alternative to the use of peat as a plant substrate. Biodegradable substrates are highly desirable alternatives to rock wool as well as perlite in the urban landscapes as well as in the soilless growth of vegetables in green houses. Specially developed textiles are thus especially interesting as potential products in such a niche market. This interdisciplinary project is based on biomimetic principles and applications, it is model based and utilizes basic knowledge from industrial applications for potential new types of products and application scenarios for plant cultivation and urban agriculture.
