GlycoPep:Surf
Title:
Biofunctional Surfaces by Glycopeptide Attachment
Duration:
01/05/2018 to 30/04/2021
Abstract / short description:
This joint research project aims at deeper insights of the interaction of glycopeptides with surfaces. In nature, glycosylated peptides and proteins can be found on nearly all cell surfaces, where they influence and steer the cell-cell recognition and differentiation as well as the formation of biofilms. In addition, the carbohydrate structure is nowadays also known to influence most fundamental biological process such as folding and immunological processes. For most of these functions, the glycol-conjugate is located at the outer surface of cells. Thus, the understanding of the interaction between different glycopeptides and between glycopeptides and surfaces at the molecular level is essential and might yield to further control and manipulation of these processes.
