Title:
Unterbrechungsfreie optische Frequenzreferenz
Duration:
01/07/2017 to 30/06/2020
Abstract / short description:
The goal of the project is the realisation of an interruption-free optical frequency reference. We aim to create a continuous chain of ultra-cold strontium atoms on which the dipole forbidden optical clock-transition can be measured without interruption. In particular, we aim to solve the long-standing problem of the sequential interruption of optical lattice clocks due to the time necessary so far for sequentially collecting, cooling and preparing the clock atoms and thereby reduce the statistical error of the frequency measurement and optical lattice clocks. The corresponding advancement of time and metrological standards would impact fundamental science, technology and our society that is using atomic clocks for navigation and synchronization of communication networks.
