Title:
Hepatitis Delta International Network

Abstract / short description:
Molecular Epidemiology of Hepatitis D viral infections in Vietnam is being investigated under this project.

The Hepatitis Delta International Network is a research network of scientists, physicians and other health care
professionals whose aim is to gather clinical information on patients with hepatitis delta from all over the world.
Chronic hepatitis delta is caused by the co-infection of hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis delta virus (HDV). Hepatitis delta is considered the most severe form of chronic hepatitis, but the mechanisms by which it damages the liver are not clear, and the drugs that are currently used to treat it are not as good as we would like them to be. The aim of this research is to obtain a better understanding of the nature of this disease, which would facilitate the management of patients with hepatitis delta and would make the development of new medicines for hepatitis delta possible.
