Title:
Tagung "Disentangling the State-Regime Nexus"
Duration:
01/06/2016 to 30/06/2016
Abstract / short description:
we bring together scholars who share an interest in theory-development on how characteristics of both states and regimes are linked to each other and how they influence political order and political change. So far, the slowly emerging literature on the state-regime nexus suffers from three shortcomings: a democracy bias, a lack of engagement with existing concepts, and a lack of agency. Against this background, our workshop is designed as a meeting of scholars with expertise in the study of collective actors (in state, regime, or society); a strong interest in revisiting key concepts in comparative research on democratization and civil wars; and/or in-depth knowledge of regions that are primarily ruled by dictatorial elites rather than democratically elected governments.
