Rapid Planning: Nachhaltiges Infrastruktur-, Umwelt- und Ressourcenmanagement für hochdynamische Metropolregionen; Teilprojekt 11: Urbane Strukturen und Fernerkundung
Duration:
01/09/2014 to 31/08/2019
Abstract / short description:
The Rapid Planning (RP) Project is an action oriented research project that has been developed under the umbrella of the Future Megacities Research Program of the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). RP seeks to develop a rapid trans-sectoral urban planning methodology with a focus on urban basic services infrastructure, specifically targeting supply and disposal infrastructure. The service sectors covered by the project include energy, water, waste water, solid waste, and urban agriculture.
The research work will be based on practical experiences in the case cities of Kigali (Rwanda), Da Nang (Vietnam) und Assiut (Egypt) and will be directly put into action. The field missions in 2012 have established a solid basis for cooperation with stakeholders in city administration, regional governments, universities and other partners in the three cities. Together with UN-Habitat the transfer into practice and the transferability of solutions will be tested.

The following results of the project are expected:
1. A trans-sectoral planning tool Rapid Planning is realised in case cities and ready for application in other cities,
2. a change of thinking and acting with view on trans-sectoral resource efficient planning in city administrations has been initiated,
3. a thorough capacity building concept has been established,
4. the transferability is checked and a feed-back loop installed, and
5. basic framework data has been established to provide basis for methodology development.
