Titel:
Non-invasive renal volume and lipid quantification as biomarkers in patients with cardiovascular disease
Laufzeit:
01.10.2015 bis 31.05.2016
Abstract / Kurz- beschreibung:
Whole-body MRI offers comprehensive assessment and quantification of various body regions and disease
states and has been used in both clinical and scientific settings. The technology has also been
implemented in population-based studies to detect early disease stages and imaging biomarkers indicative
of increased risk of developing diseases in the future.
Parenchymal abnormalities of the kidneys are closely linked to the development and outcome of
cardiovascular disease (CVD). Renal sinus fat, as an example of ectopic perivascular fat depots, obstructs
the blood and lymph outflow of the kidney and is thus associated with both hypertension and chronic kidney
disease.
The purpose of this project is to develop independent kidney based morphometric and metabolic
biomarkers, which allow assessment of early renal abnormalities. Ultimately they may serve for individual
risk and outcome assessment in cardiovascular disease.
