Duration:

Abstract / short description:
Health services research/quality of life & others: Development of a provisional concept with a first step towards practical implementation and integration into the “health conference” concept used by the Land Government of Baden Wuerttemberg to improve demographic transition regarding the care of elderly Turkish migrants belonging to the first generation of immigrants in Germany, as an example of a culture-sensitive, effective health care system for migrants living in Germany
How can a culture-sensitive care system be structured efficiently and effectively for elderly Turkish migrants and migrants of Turkish origin? What do they expect their care to be like when they are get older? What is expected of family members, General Practitioners (GP), care services and care institutions? How can these expectations of the German health system be reconciled with the reality of care? Does the care provided to Turkish migrants satisfy the requirements of the “Charter of Rights for People in Need of Long Term Care and Assistance” published by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ), and the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG)?
Using qualitative interview data, the study aims to develop an understanding of the subjective expectations of care for the elderly and the personal experiences of the health service among Turkish migrants and migrants of Turkish origin from the first generation of guest workers. This will be supplemented by the views and experiences which family members have of the topic, especially children and grandchildren. The expert perspective will be represented by attending GPs and experts from care institutions and elsewhere. The intention is to close any existing gaps in knowledge in order to be able to develop realisable options for action for the structuring of such care.
The overriding objectives of the research project are
a) Working with those concerned and with experts, to develop strategies for a target group-oriented health and care system for elderly Turkish migrants and migrants of Turkish origin.
b) A workshop with the aim of bringing the concept into practice, which will form the first stage of the implementation. The intention for the transfer into practice is to be integrated into the “health conference“ concept used by the Land Government of Baden-Wuerttemberg, and a manual and a training concept will be further elements of the transfer into practice.
