Title:
„Mapping far right violence against people with disabilities, resistance and professional approach (MAVIOPA)“
Duration:
01/06/2025 to 31/05/2028
Abstract / short description:
MAVIOPA investigates extreme right-wing violence against people with (cognitive) disabilities in the present day, against the backdrop of the historical significance of “eugenics”, “racial hygiene” and the later Nazi “euthanasia” crimes in Germany.
The project focuses primarily on those affected, as well as the forms of extreme right-wing violence and the locations, processes and contexts. It is also of interest how different actors react to the events, i.e. those affected, bystanders, police, education and the social environment. To this end, it is also asked, for example, whether institutional measures were taken and what activities or political actions were implemented by educational professionals in response or whether and what forms of civil society protest took place.
MAVIOPA is a joint project between the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences (HSD) (Prof. Dr. Christiane Leidinger) and the Institute for Right-Wing Extremism Research at the University of Tübingen (Prof. Dr. Heike Radvan). The sub-project at the HSD analyzes media coverage, especially since the 1990s, and civil society documentation as well as monitoring and other survey results; the sub-project at the University of Tübingen focuses on (group) interviews with those affected, professionals and relatives.
This joint basic research is used for knowledge transfer, with the aim of strengthening awareness of the problem, the ability to intervene and thus the professionalization of the relevant occupational groups. The findings can also be used to develop protection and safety measures as well as empowerment approaches.
