Title:
Field studies on a tropical peatland to determine microbiological processes and greenhouse-gas emissions
Duration:
01/04/2025 to 31/03/2026
Abstract / short description:
The proposed research collaboration is focused on research at a
tropical peatland in Brunei Darussalam, which has been affected by
drainage as well as fire. Key objectives of the research are to study
microbial and hydrological processes together with greenhouse-gas
measurements while considering peatland ecology. Investigations are
planned to be performed during dry as well as wet seasons along with
different monitoring transects that extend from relatively intact peat-
swamp forest across degraded peatland towards a drainage canal.
This will help to interpret the results, as different gradients, e.g.
varying abundances of ecophysiologically different prokaryotes across
different degradation-affected peat soils, are expected.
