Abstract / short description:

The aim of the ELAPSE-ND project is to identify, validate and characterize genetic modifiers of neurodegenerative diseases in order to gain a deeper understanding of the underlying pathomechanisms. The aim of this subproject in Tübingen is to investigate genetic modifying factors of a hereditary neurodegenerative disease called spinocerebellar ataxia type 3. The knowledge gained in this project can be used to identify genetic predispositions to neurodegenerative diseases and earlier onset of such diseases and to develop innovative, personalized therapeutic approaches.
