Basic data
Title:
The aesthetics of scale in Pliny’s "Natural History"
Duration:
01/11/2024 to 31/10/2027
Abstract / short description:
The project will examine the aesthetics of scale in Pliny's Natural History (1st century AD), which is particularly important for a deeper understanding of the work as a whole. It will show how the category of "scale" concerns the principle of Pliny's encyclopaedic writing in itself. Exploration of the aesthetics of scale will provide insights into the literary, aesthetic, epistemological and political-ideological contexts.
