Vollständige Charakterisierung der Volans-Carina Sterngruppe im Röntgenlicht

Among the kinematically well-defined groups of stars, the Volans-Carina association occupies a unique position in terms of distance (~85 pc) and age (~90 million years), namely between groups that are young but distant and therefore difficult to observe and those that are closer but also older. The complete X-ray survey of the young stellar group Volans-Carina, which will be obtained using an XMM-Newton/AO23 "Large Program", will reveal for the first time the full range of coronal emission at a critical age at the end of the pre-main sequence down to spectral type M.
The primary goal in analyzing the XMM-Newton data that form the basis of this funding proposal is to measure the X-ray luminosities for all stars in the Volans-Carina group that have not been detected with ROSAT or eROSITA. This will address the following topics: (1) using X-ray detection as an independent criterion for assigning individual stars to the young association; (2) establishing the X-ray luminosity function and studying it in the context of older field stars that are already being characterized in an ongoing project in the applicant's working group, with a focus on low-mass stars; (3) constructing a catalog of X-ray and UV properties of all members of the Volans-Carina association, for further use in studying the effects on planetary atmospheres, among other things.
