ProjectSantangelo eROSTEP2 – Accreting black holes and neutron stars in the Milky Way
Basic data
Acronym:
Santangelo eROSTEP2
Title:
Accreting black holes and neutron stars in the Milky Way
Duration:
01/09/2024 to 31/08/2027
Abstract / short description:
The goal of the project is primarily to take advantage of the eROSITA survey data relative to the four survey scans already completed to explore the faint end of the X-ray luminosity functions of X-ray binaries, both low-mass and high-mass. The enhanced sensitivity with respect to previous surveys will allow sampling a larger fraction of objects in the Galaxy and the Magellanic Clouds, down to luminosities that are typical of the quiescent states of these sources. To detect X-ray binaries in the enormous amount of data available, machine learning techniques will be systematically applied.
