Abstract / short description:
The QUASNO (QUAntifying SNOw accumulation in East Antarctica) project will assess the spatial and temporal variability of snow accumulation in East Antarctica for the past 200 to 300 years by reconstructing accumulation rates using snow radar data, ice cores and the statistical relationship between accumulation and surface topography. Additionally investigations of the relation to temperature will quantify the sensitivity of the accumulation rate to warming temperatures. The results will help answer the question of whether increasing snow accumulation can mitigate projected global mean sea level rise and reduce uncertainties about the contribution of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet. Project Investigator is Alexandra Zuhr.
