Abstract / short description:
The goal of RELIEF is to develop and evaluate a case management program for patients with chronic pain and frequent analgesic use who are treated in in family doctor practices. The focus will be on promoting self-care and social activity. Best practice recommendations from four areas will be implemented: Chronic Pain Assessment and Monitoring, Patient Support and Education, Self-Care/Self-Efficacy, and Rational Pharmacotherapy.
A comprehensive observational study and a pilot study will support the development of the intervention (phase 1). The intervention will be evaluated in a cluster randomized controlled trial with 20-40 practices and 200-400 patients (Phase 2).
