ProjectDAAD 57602271 – Glacial-Holocene Transition in the Mid-Adriatic Deep
Basic data
Acronym:
DAAD 57602271
Title:
Glacial-Holocene Transition in the Mid-Adriatic Deep
Duration:
01/01/2022 to 31/12/2023
Abstract / short description:
Geophysical, biostratigraphical, elemental, isotopic and organic compositions of the eastern Adriatic sediments will be extensively investigated. The this DAAD proposal we will be able to provide a better temporal and spatial understanding of late Quaternary paleoclimates and sea level rise contributing to paleoenvironment of the Adriatic Sea and at a Mediterranean level. Multy-proxy studies are a complex interaction of many scientists and sub-disciplines of geology and foraminifera are among the most abundant unicellular organisms in the marine realm and are widely used in ecological and paleoecological studies, within this collaboration foraminifera will be used in combination with other micropaleontological, sedimentological, geochemical, isotopic, aDNA from dated cores from the Mid Adriatic Deep (MAD; the Jabuka depression) and the coastal and estuary environments of central Dalmatia. Foraminifera are ideally suited for such studies due to their short life cycles, high biodiversity and well-known species' ecological preferences. Qualitative (genera and species determination) and quantitative analyses (absolute and relative abundance of species, dominant species and abundance of stress-tolerant species) of foraminiferal assemblages will be performed.
