The presence of Black people in Germany was much more widespread than was assumed until recently. Their perception, i.e. the reflection of perceived differences, their valuation and processing has an impact on the practices and epistemic discourses of the German Enlightenment. These practices, discourses, and epistemes of the German Enlightenment, produced in the tension between globality and locality, will be examined.
