Abstract / short description:
The HelicoPTER project ("Helicobacter pylori Prevalence and Antibiotic Resistance in Germany") aims to systematically assess the national prevalence and antibiotic resistance of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in the adult population through a population-based, non-interventional clinical study. The project consists of two major components:
Part A involves urea breath tests in approximately 12,000 individuals selected to be representative of the German population in terms of age, sex, and region. This will provide accurate and up-to-date data on the distribution of H. pylori infections.
Part B includes the collection and analysis of endoscopic biopsies from approximately 1,000 H. pyloripositive individuals. The isolated strains will be characterized at the molecular level, including their antibiotic resistance profiles.
