Title:
Promoting Mobility and Preventing Delirium and Dementia in Nursing Home Residents: A Multidisciplinary Transsectoral Implementation
Duration:
01/03/2026 to 28/02/2027
Abstract / short description:
The ProMoDe project is a multidisciplinary feasibility study aimed at promoting mobility and preventing delirium and dementia in elderly people in need of care. Against the backdrop of high prevalence rates of physical inactivity, sarcopenia, and cognitive disorders in care facilties, ProMoDe is investigating the acceptance and feasibility of motor and digital geriatric assessments of mobility, muscle mass, cognition, and quality of life, as well as preventive measures based on these assessments.
The focus is on objective, digital methods and multi-component physical activity and cognitive training programs that can be carried out under the guidance of specialists by trained nursing home staff and everyday companions. The aim is to enable individualized secondary prevention to maintain autonomy and quality of life and to test its integration into everyday care.

Starting in spring 2026, two modules will be implemented in nursing homes:
(1) Acceptance and trainability of motor assessments and PA programs, and
(2) acceptance and feasibility of cognitive assessments and cognitive stimulation.

ProMoDe builds on preliminary work such as the BaSAlt study, the TUCAN initiative, and the PAWEL study.
