Basic data
Title:
Understanding the Pathobiology of AMD towards Therapy Development
Duration:
01/01/2026 to 31/12/2030
Abstract / short description:
AMD is a complex disease. Genetics, lifestyle and ageing determine the risk of developing AMD. We propose to focus specifically on the interaction of genetics, lifestyle and ageing in AMD over the next 5 years. Research within this programme proposed will focus on: 1) the establishment and expansion of advanced iPSC based cellular model systems for AMD research, 2) the investigation of specific pathomechanisms located at risk alleles on Chromosome 1 and Chromosome 10, 3) the impact of age and life-style risks on AMD pathology and 4) the establishment of new multiomics signature profiles that enable the development of new companion biomarkers and treatment strategies.
