Acronym:
ABSOLUTE
Title:
Antibiotic Stewardship and Infection Control in Patients at High Risk of Developing Infection by C. difficile, Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci or Multi-Resistant Gram-Negatives
Duration:
01/01/2019 to 31/12/2020
Abstract / short description:
Preliminary data from the CONTROL and R-NET/ABSOLUTE studies, run by TTU HAARBI, as well as independent sources suggest rapid spread of VRE in German hospitals. Three major factors are assumed to contribute to the development of colonization with VRE: acquisition from the environment, clonal expansion driven by selective pressure and cross-transmission. However, the individual weight of each of these factors remains unknown, even though this knowledge is a necessary prerequisite to design effective infection control tools.
Based on the usage of state-of-the-art molecular diagnostic tools and comprehensive clinical assessment, we propose a prospective study in which the factors regulating VRE spread will be assessed in depth.
