Title:
Closed-loop TMS triggered by real-time cortical excitability states for neural rehabilitation of patients with disorders of consciousness
Duration:
01/10/2019 to 31/03/2021
Abstract / short description:
This project aims at establishing a more efficient rTMS protocol for neural rehabilitation of DOC patients, by testing an EEG-TMS closed-loop system in DOC patients. The main aims are:
(1) To evaluate the effects of rTMS triggered by different phases of the ongoing alpha rhythm in the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) on the DOC patients;
(2) To investigate the interaction between the instantaneous excitability state with the cortical responses to rTMS by characteristics derived from resting-state EEG and TMS-EEG;
(3) To improve the traditional open-loop rTMS strategy and develop methods for applying an EEG-TMS protocol on neural rehabilitation of DOC patients.
