Abstract / short description:
In this sub-project, the influence of the turbulent and disturbed atmospheric flow on helicopter operation
within an off-shore wind farm and near single turbines is studied using experimental / measured data.
Beside already available data, high resolution measurements using small unmanned research aircraft of
type MASC are obtained during field campaigns in off-shore conditions. The measured data will directly be
analysed, but also used for the initialisation and verification of numerical simulations within the project.
Various meteorological conditions with respect to wind direction and speed, thermal stratification and
turbulence grade will be considered. Finally, recommendations for helicopter operation will be defined from
the meteorological point of view.
