Abstract / short description:
Bridging funds for DFG proposal:PARP inhibition.
Poly-ADP-ribosylation (PARylation) is one of the most important post-translational modifications of histone proteins. As such it is involved in many cellular pathways including transcription, DNA repair, and cell death. Excessive PARP activity is also known to be involved in photoreceptor degeneration in various animal models for Retinitis Pigmentosa (Arango-Gonzalez 2014). Therefore, we will investigate the therapeutic potential of PARP inhibitors on inherited photoreceptor degeneration.
