Title:
Measurement-Based Spatial Dependence of Aquifer Parameters: Modelling and Impact Assessment
Duration:
01/10/2015 to 30/09/2018
Abstract / short description:
The arrangement and the dependence of spatially distributed parameters (e.g. hydraulic conductivity, precipitation, groundwater quality parameters) impacts dependent physical-, chemical-, and other quantities (e.g. time of earliest breakthrough, peak concentration).

This research project aims to
- demonstrate that non-linear spatial dependence improves the description of a non-stationary plume in at a site where plume movement and subsurface properties were monitored in great detail. However, the description of the plume movement based on models has not been achieved to a satisfactory degree;
- develop tools to characterize the type of non-linear dependence based on commonly available observations.
